Contact IPSR for Government Approved First Aid Training

"Recertification is a challenge of both the theory and practical examinations prior to certificate expiry and includes documented retesting of all mandatory skills. After certificate expiry date, retraining is required."

What Does This Mean?

If you have a current Alberta Standard First Aid certificate, you can attend an Alberta Standard First Aid Recertification course.

Recertification is a challenge of the theory and practical skills required to receive a Standard First Aid certificate in Alberta. At the end of the program, you must pass a government approved theory exam and demonstrate all required practical skills to a competent level.

If you do not pass the theory exam or practical skills, you will have to take the entire two day Standard First Aid course over again.

What Does This Mean For You?

If you have a current Standard First Aid certificate, you can recertify in one day. This is a huge time saver and reduces scheduling problems as you do not have to be away from work for two consecutive days.

If your first aid certificate has expired, even by one day, you are not eligible to participate in the recertification process.

Why Use IPSR for Your Recertification Process?

The biggest concern instructors have is that the students are not prepared when they show up for the recertification course. In most cases, the last time they opened a first aid book was three years ago during their last course. In theory, for successful completion of the recertification course, students should show up ready to demonstrate the skills and write the theory exam, but often this does not happen.

IPSR has corrected this is by having the students complete a short pre-study program. Students complete the key modules of our Standard First Aid course. This guarantees they are knowledgeable on the theory component of first aid when they show up for recertification.

Here’s How it Works

To attain your recertification:

  • Register with an approved provider
  • Complete the pre-course study component online (approximately 2½ hours)
  • Attend an in-class training and practical testing session
  • Write and pass the theory exam
  • Receive your certificate (valid for three years)
